Fortune Centre

The building

What this site is becoming

The units are sold. Rather than switch the site off, we are turning it into something that answers the question people actually arrive with.

Every strata unit at Fortune Centre has been sold. The conventional next step is to let the website lapse — the sales job is done, the enquiry form has nothing to enquire about, and the whole thing quietly 404s a year later.

We are doing the opposite, for a straightforward reason: people keep arriving.

The traffic never wanted the price list

Look at what brings people to a building's website and it is almost never the floor plates. It is is that vegetarian place still open, which floor is the dumpling shop, what's the number for the massage place on Level 2, where do I park.

That question has never been well answered anywhere. The building's own signage is a board in the lift lobby. Search results are a scatter of review sites that each know about six tenants. Nobody has published the whole building.

So that is what this is now: the full directory, organised by level and by category, with phone numbers where we have them, kept as current as we can manage.

And a journal

Alongside it, we write. Guides to the building and its floors. The food, which is the reason most people come. Notes on the Bugis and Rochor strata market, because that is the trade we know and because Fortune Centre is a genuinely instructive example of how small owner-occupied commercial space works over forty years.

Over time that will widen. We look after other properties and follow other parts of the market, and the writing here will cover them too — plus whatever else in Singapore commercial property is worth writing down on a given day.

If that is useful to you, the RSS feed is the way to follow it.

What we would like from you

Corrections, mainly. If you trade here, work here, or have eaten here for twenty years, you know things this directory does not. A wrong unit number, a business that closed, a phone number that has changed, a stall that has been here since 1985 and has never appeared in a single search result — all of it is welcome at hello@fortunecentre.com.sg.

The building has been running for more than forty years. This is an attempt to write down what is actually in it.
